TACP - FLAT TOP BEACON |
The TACP Beacon (NSN: 5855-01-460-9151) is a high intensity infrared beacon designed for long distance signaling during Close Air Support (Night CAS) operations.
Primarily used as a Drop Zone (DZ), Landing Zone (LZ) and reference marker, the beacons flat top design emits a directional signal engineered to maximize ground-to-air signal while minimizing the ground-to-ground signal. Powered by six 9 - Volt lithium or alkaline batteries providing 200+ hours of continuous operation, the TACP beacon can be seen by aircraft at distances up to twenty nautical miles.
The TACP incorporates an 18-LED array sealed within a proprietary resin that enhances the LED’s light dispersion while sealing the electronic components from the environment. The body of the TACP beacon is weatherproof and provides attachment points for securing the beacon to objects. An optional Accessory Pack with Tie down Stakes and Strap (905111A) can also be used to secure the beacon in high winds or rotor wash. The TACP also includes a battery saver function that allows the beacon to be powered by a single 9 volt battery in situations where battery supplies are limited.
The TACP can easily be switched ON or OFF via a single switch on the top of the beacon. A visible low-intensity, miniature indicator light flashes during operation to confirm the beacon is on for persons without night vision equipment. An additional built-in light sensor automatically deactivates the unit to save power during daylight conditions. |
