TACP - DOMED TOP BEACON |
The domed top TACP beacon is virtually identical to the flat top beacon. The only difference is the beam dispersion. The 360° vertical x 180° circular cone improves the detection range of low flying aircraft. This is often important when working with helicopters and low flying Night CAS aircraft such as the A-10 Warthog.
In night CAS (Close Air Support) operations, Army units often rely upon their own attack helicopters to support the ground mission. Apache and other attack helicopters operate at relatively low altitudes and the flat top cover limits detection range at these low altitudes. The domed TACP beacon dramatically improves low-level detection range, as compared to the flat top beacon. |
